Here at Field Agent we support many of Canada's Pizza focussed restaurant operators to gain the insights they need to help run their business. From concept testing to price audits, mystery shopping to in-field product testing; Field Agent has a solution for that.

We wanted to get a read on what customers would be expecting from their favourite Pizza brands in 2025 and the results of our recent survey are highlighted in the infographic below.

We talked to 1,257 Canadians from coast-to-coast and at the end of the survey we asked them what advice they would have for the senior management of their favourite Pizza focussed restaurant chain and this is what they told us:

Based on the survey responses, four key areas stand out as the most impactful for improving customer satisfaction and driving business growth at Pizza focussed restaurants: affordability, consistency, menu innovation and employee training.
  1. Affordability and Value Deals
Customers consistently emphasize that pizza has become too expensive, often comparing it to other dining options. To address this, focus on offering value-driven deals such as family meal bundles, loyalty programs, and daily specials. For example, introduce a "Two for One" deal or a "Slice and Pop Combo" for lunch. Additionally, consider lowering the price of basic pizzas and offering more free toppings (e.g., garlic, oregano, or olive oil) to enhance perceived value. A robust loyalty program that rewards frequent customers with free items or discounts after a certain number of purchases will also encourage repeat business.

  2. Consistency in Quality and Service
Many customers expressed frustration with inconsistent pizza quality, especially during peak hours or across different locations. To ensure consistency, implement standardized training programs for staff, focusing on ingredient portioning, cooking times, and customer service. Regularly audit locations to maintain quality control and address any issues promptly. Additionally, invest in better packaging for delivery orders to keep pizzas hot and fresh, reducing complaints about soggy crusts or cold food.

  3. Menu Innovation and Dietary Inclusivity
Customers are looking for more variety, including healthier options, unique toppings, and dietary-friendly choices like gluten-free, vegan, and low-calorie pizzas. Introduce seasonal or limited-time offerings to keep the menu exciting, such as a "Mediterranean Veggie Pizza" or a "Spicy Buffalo Chicken Pizza." Expand combo options to include salad, wings, and desserts, making it easier for families to order complete meals. Additionally, consider offering customizable pizzas with a wider range of sauces, crusts, and toppings to cater to diverse tastes.

  4. Exceptional Customer Service and Staff Training

Customers frequently mentioned the importance of friendly and efficient service, both in-store and during delivery. To address this, prioritize staff training programs that emphasize:
  • Politeness and professionalism: Ensure staff greet customers warmly, handle complaints gracefully, and maintain a positive attitude.

  • Order accuracy: Train employees to double-check orders before handing them out or delivering them to avoid mistakes.

  • Speed of service: Optimize kitchen workflows and delivery processes to reduce wait times, especially during peak hours.

Additionally, consider implementing customer feedback systems (e.g., post-order surveys or app-based reviews) to identify areas for improvement and reward employees who consistently deliver excellent service. A happy, well-trained staff will not only improve the customer experience but also enhance your brand’s reputation.

By focusing on these four areas affordability, consistency, innovation and customer service you can address the most common customer concerns while differentiating your brand in a competitive market. Implementing these changes will not only improve customer satisfaction but also drive loyalty and increase sales.
