Cupid will soon be making his arrival in Canada and here at Field Agent we were wondering how high inflation might be impacting how Canadians celebrate Valentine's Day this year.
On Feb 9th and 10th, Field Agent Canada surveyed 1,147 Canadians and this is what they told us:
First, two thirds of Canadians (67%) said that they bought cards, chocolates, candy, flowers and / or other gifts for Valentine's Day last year, so there is a lot of money at stake!
We then asked those respondents how their spending on Valentine's Day would compare to last year. 35% of respondents said that they would spend less this year while only 16% said they would spend more. It looks like sales of Valentine's Day items will be down in 2023.
One bright spot is for restaurant operators. Last year, 36% of respondents said they went out for dinner or a special meal to celebrate Valentine's Day 2022 but 44% of respondents plan on going out to celebrate Valentine's Day this year!
Regardless of the amount spent or whether you have dinner out or at home we wish you a very Happy Valentine's Day!
