Thrifty Foods, that little gem of Vancouver Island (and now the Lower Mainland too) has opened a new store in South Surrey, British Columbia and it does not disappoint.
Thrifty has always prided itself on being leaders in fresh and it appears that despite their acquisition by Sobeys they have not lost their touch. In fact, the Sobeys / Thrifty combo seems to be able to dream up a great store.
Fresh departments are the centre pieces of the store with the perimeter being well organized and superbly merchandised. Produce was in excellent shape – the best of the eight stores I saw today in Lower Mainland.
Especially interesting touches include:
- Meals To Go Section titled “Let’s dine out at home!”
- A “Vitamins and More” shop-in-shop wellness section
- Stone Oven Pizza prepared fresh right in the store.
- A great Floral section that rivals many great Florist shops.
If you are going to be in Vancouver for the Olympics and have a break in the action (and a hankering to visit a great store) you can’t go wrong than visit this gem. Only 45 minutes from the Vancouver airport.
