On February 4th, a new and different type of Starbucks location opened in Toronto's Commerce Court. This location is in a high-traffic area and only handles pick-up orders submitted by customers using the Starbucks app.
This location does not have any seating and you cannot place any counter orders. This is a "grab-and-go" location designed to fulfill the caffeine requirements of busy Torontonians working in the downtown core.
This is the only location like this in Canada and only the second in the world after a similar location opened in New York's Penn Station in 2019.
We sent three Starbucks customers to this location so they could try out the experience and this is what they had to say.
While we do not expect to see many more of these Starbucks Pick Up locations in Canada, it is an amazing glance into the future of retail and foodservice. With chain specific mobile apps being used for ordering food from coffee to pizza and third party providers such as Skip The Dishes and UberEats delivering right to your door - the customer experience model has permanently changed.
Customers arriving at this location can get the status of their orders on digital displays and then pick up their order from the counter and be on their way!
